If you eat a lot of peanut butter, your height will not necessarily stop. Neither does masturbation stop height. What might stop you from growing is smoking, drugs, alcohol, lack of sleep, stress, digestive problems, or lack of exercise.

Eating Patterns

Eat at least two hours before starting your exercise. It is a fact that insulin levels are highest right after a big hearty meal. Insulin suppresses HGH release and a big meal takes blood away from your muscles and redirects it to your stomach.

Eating before exercise

Any forms of carbohydrates such as baked potato, bread and jam, spaghetti, or cereal are good choices. Try to eat foods with a medium glycemic index so that your body will have a constant source of energy while exercising. Do not eat chocolate, sugar cubes, and other high sugar content food.

Eating after exercise

We recommend one cup of orange juice mixed with one cup of water, and ¼ tablespoon of salt after a good workout or exercise. As for food, anything high in protein is a good source, mixed with some carbohydrate. A good ratio is ¼ protein and ¾ carbohydrate.

What to avoid

Do not eat meals in large quantities. It is recommended to eat 5 – 7 meals a day. Also, never eat during two hours before sleeping. Eating right before sleep inhibits HGH release and your efforts go to waste. Foods high in saturated fats, high in sugar and processed foods are to be avoided. Do not drink too much water or milk at any one time. Drink at regular intervals (approx. 8 glasses of water a day).

Step 2: Stretching exercise

Exercising is an important part to growing taller. But in order to grow taller you must do the right kind of exercise. Just exercising blindly could lead to a loss in weight or even an increase in muscle. While both may be desirable results, you are exercising to grow taller NOT to lose weight.

Below are just a few types of stretching exercises that will help lengthen your spine and increase your height.

Yoga & Pilates

There are a variety of yoga and pilates exercises we can do to grow taller. These stretching exercises will get your spine right, by aligning your spine correctly and prepare it for elongation.

  Sit / Easy Position – Sukahasana
This is a starting position that helps focus awareness on breathing and the body, strengthen the lower back and open the groin and hips.

-Sit cross-legged with hands on knees.
-Focus on your on your breath.
-Keep your spine straight and push the sit bones down to the floor.
-Allow the knees to gently lower.
-If the knees rise above your hips, sit on a cushion as it will help support your back and hips.
-Take 5 – 10 slow, deep breaths.
-On the next inhale, raise your arms over your head.
-Exhale and bring your arms down slowly.
-Repeat 5-7 times.

 

Sit / Easy Position

 

2. Dog and Cat

This will increase your spine’s flexibility. These are two poses, one following the other.

-Begin on your hands and knees.

-Keep your hands just in front of your shoulders, your legs about hip width -apart.

-As you inhale, tilt the tailbone and pelvis up, and let the spin curl down, dropping the stomach low, and lift your head up

-Stretch gently

-As you exhale, move into cat by reversing the spinal bend, tilting the pelvis down, drawing the spine up and pulling the chest and stomach in

-Repeat several times, flowing smoothly from dog to cat and cat back into dog

Chin-ups & Pull-ups

These exercises work the shoulders, as well as the back, arms, and obliques. You can experiment with these different types, but only do one exercise type per day. They should be done every other day, or every 2 days, depending on your strength and experience. As with yoga and pilates, doing these exercises regularly can and will help you grow taller.

1. Chin-up

-Step up and grasp bar with an overhand grip.

-Pull down until the chin is above the bar.

-Lower body until arms and shoulders are fully extended. Repeat.

2. Close Grip Chin-up

-Step up and grasp parallel bars.

-Pull body up until elbow are at the sides.

-Lower body until arms and shoulders are fully extended. Repeat.

3. Pull-up

-Step up and grasp bar with a wide overhand grip.

-Pull body until neck reaches the height of the hands.

-Lower body until arms and shoulders are fully extended. Repeat.

Step 3: Boost your growth hormones

Size may matter, but in some cases the smallest thing can have the biggest impact. Like that grape-sized organ, the anterior pituitary gland nestled within your brain. Despite its small dimensions, it is the source of powerful juice when it comes to building height. The anterior pituitary gland is responsible for secreting a substance called somatotropic hormone, more commonly known as “growth hormone,” into your bloodstream.

Although the amount of growth hormone your body regularly produces is entirely up to your brain, there are a few things you can do to trick that thrifty gland into being a bit more generous. Now that you’ve worked hard enough on your body performing the stretching exercises, pay attention to the following ways in order to grow taller.

Sleep

Get your shut-eye. It’s simple math really. Add eight hours to the time you went to bed, then look at your alarm clock before peeling yourself from the sheets. Not getting enough sleep regularly can lower the amount of growth hormone your body produces daily and thus prevent you from growing taller.

Even though excess sleep won’t necessarily increase the amount of growth hormone your body secretes, constantly burning your midnight oil could be suppressing how efficiently your body distributes growth hormone during the course of the day. Keeping normal sleeping habits may let you tap into a certain percentage of growth hormone that your bones never get a chance to utilise when sleep-deprived.

Eat Smarter

Focus on eating six or seven smaller meals during your day instead of three or four larger ones. Consuming large meals with a high glycemic index forces the body to release a high amount of insulin into the system to aid with digestion. This reaction not only forces your body to store fat, it may also inhibit the flow of the growth hormone being released throughout your bloodstream. Instead, make a point of consuming other low-sugar foods that will prevent the release of insulin.

The crossover between what you need to stay healthy and what you need to release more growth hormone doesn’t stop with eating smaller meals and getting enough shut-eye. All of the same factors that need to be in place for a healthy lifestyle still hold true. Training right, eating right, sleeping right and keeping your stress to a minimum will not only keep you healthier, they will foster the type of environment that encourages the anterior pituitary gland to do its job. Deficits in any of these areas will only slow down how well your body functions as a whole, which in turn slow down the amount of growth hormone that is being continually pumped into your system.

Supplement Strategically

Taking the amino acid glycine immediately before you work out can mildly stimulate the release of growth hormone, but only when taken as a supplement. Trying to achieve the same effect by consuming glycine-rich foods such as poultry or milk prior to exercise only inhibits growth hormone by causing you to exercise on a full stomach, plus the glycine doesn’t get absorbed in the same way.

Being introduced into the body in the presence of additional amino acids forces the glycine to compete for transport across the blood-brain barrier, diminishing its effect on the growth hormone levels. The only way glycine can cause a reaction is when taken in isolated supplement form, preferably on an empty stomach to speed up absorption and prevent outside interference from other amino acids.

To gain and benefit from virtually unlimited growth, you need to understand three key concepts: irresistible growth, stalls, and stallbusting.

The term “irresistible force” conjures up ideas of overwhelming power, like the jet stream, a tornado or an earthquake, that often suggest conflict or annihilation. But “irresistible” can also mean something that is so alluring that we are drawn to it despite our desire to resist. In the Odyssey, for example, Odysseus had to be bound to the mast of his ship so that he could resist the songs of sirens as he sailed past their island.

An irresistible force can have either attribute. It can be so strong that it overwhelms you physically, as in a force of nature, or it can be so attractive that it is hard to resist psychologically, as in a temporarily low interest rate, which leads you to borrow excessively.

In business, irresistible forces are powerful trends that can significantly affect the direction of your enterprise. Such forces abound. Customer needs and the influences that create those needs, costs that are hard to control, government regulation, taxes, trends in the development of technology, globalization, the weather, physical limits, and human behavior are some examples.

An irresistible force is simply anything that is mostly beyond the control of you and your organization in influencing your business. Unless your enterprise is a virtual monopoly, you have to take into account the whims of the powerful customer before deciding where you will sit.

As an example, consider a company that provides accessories for sport utility vehicles (SUVs). When the demand for SUVs is high, the accessory manufacturer is kept busy trying to make enough products to keep up with the demand. As newer and better models of SUV come out, the demand for accessories shifts in new and unpredictable ways.

Similarly, when SUVs lose their popularity — because of higher insurance premiums, revelations of overhyped safety or capability for driving in snow, decreased family size, or objections to airborne emissions — the accessory maker has a hard time selling accessories even if they are vastly improved and offered at a low price. Therefor, the accessory business can be buffeted by irresistible forces in different directions and in unpredictable ways, going rapidly from enormous growth to potential free-fall.

What is an irresistible force? The customer’s CEO sits wherever he or she likes.

All enterprises are subject to many and potentially changeable forces. Unfortunately, the powers that be in many organizations convince themselves that the status quo will remain in place forever. They create a business model that keeps them focused on fine tuning their current state of affairs. All well and good, until the irresistible forces shift in such a way that they encourage your customer to sit instead with your toughest competitor.

Such a shift is inevitable in most businesses if for no other reason than demographics. People change their consumption patterns and the numbers of people in various age groups changes as well. Such changes have meant, for example, that the latest needs of baby boomers have driven the U.S. economy in fundamental ways since the 1950s and will continue to do so for quite some time.

Remember the diaper services that did so well in the late 1940s? Freshly laundered cloth diapers were delivered to the home and soiled diapers were sent out to be washed. That business was eventually subjected to many irresistible forces that changed its profitability.

As women began to work outside the home in increasing numbers and better birth control allowed for increased family planning, births declined and fewer diapers were needed. By the time the first baby boomers were having children, disposable diapers became the rage.

Diaper services saw their business disappear into the sewers and landfills of America. They became victims of a “stall,” a complacent frame of mind and way of thinking resulting in bad organizational habits that impede progress and the achievement of an enterprise’s full success potential.

Suppose a diaper service owner recognized the irresistible forces of the changing demographics and the disposable diaper? She or he could capitalize on the disposable diaper trend by providing the convenience of both disposing of and delivering the bulky items. And if he or she touted ecologically appropriate disposal, wouldn’t this service appeal to even those consumers inclined to buy and dispose of the diapers themselves who care about conservation? For the enterprise to achieve irresistible growth it is necessary that it recognize and overcome the stalls that delay positive action in dealing with irresistible forces.

What is a stall? If it was good enough for Grandma, let’s not leave well enough alone.

Before Muhammad Ali (born Cassius Clay) entered the boxing ring, heavyweight fighting was usually a brawl involving two fighters unmercifully pounding each other until one fell bloodied, bruised, and battered to the canvas for the ten count. But Ali, realizing that getting near a hard-hitting heavyweight fighter in the ring is a dangerous thing to do, changed the sport forever.

He got into top shape aerobically, and danced all around his opponents. He could quickly reach in and flick a punch, and then retreat before the other fighter could react. In fact, the late counterpunch that caught only air helped Ali by tiring out his opponent. Ali’s motto was: “Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee.”

With his strategy of being outside the range of the irresistible force of the other fighter’s fists, Ali is a classic example of taking a stallbusting approach: using conscious thought to challenge old habits. He realized that getting hit didn’t make you a successful boxer, that success could be achieved by being constantly on the move to be where you could hit but not be hit.

Similarly, consider the prospects for a poor artist at the beginning of the twentieth century. The avant garde styles were changing from Impressionism to Expressionism, while traditional collectors ignored both in favor of polished realism. Clearly, tastes would range from the classic to the most avant garde in the rest of the century. How could an unknown succeed?

Viewed in this light, the career of Pablo Picasso shows that he was a champion stallbuster, as well as one of the 20th century’s great artists. He was a master who easily succeeded with any style he chose, producing works in virtually every type of style in almost every major medium.

Consequently, there was always a type of Picasso to appeal to almost everyone, and his lifetime income was many times larger than those of his contemporaries were. By using a stallbusting approach to the changing art milieu, he found a breakthrough solution to being an outstanding artist who was well appreciated and well paid during his lifetime.

Growthful Fear and Anxiety – Feel the Fear and Know You’re on the Right Track

For some reason we think if we listen to the lecture, read the book, buy the product, or attend the workshop that we should be able to “just do it.” But the truth is that for athletes, artists, musicians, or anyone when they begin a new job – it’s the hands-on practice that really builds their knowing, ability, and confidence in a new area.

In other words, the feeling of successfully learning something new is experiential – we have to experience ourselves doing it well in order to know that we’ve got it. This requires that we practice our new knowledge – which includes feeling awkward, making mistakes, and seeing our skills improve over time.

Last week I was working with one of my students who is dedicated to getting the most out of our work together. It was clear how much she admired my success in weight loss – how to know what to eat considering all the possible options, how to get herself to do what she knew, how to finally have peace with food and weight. She works with me to acquire that knowledge and inner understanding for herself because she longs to feel confident, unburdened, healthy, and radiant.

So I asked my student if she knew how long it had taken me to feel and embody the qualities she desired. Can you guess how long it took me? Six months? One year? Three years? I worked long and hard – learning to be present, understanding and experimenting with food and movement, exploring my emotional connections to food, reading, and studying, practicing what I was learning, and getting as much time as I could with my teachers who advanced my development – for 8 years before I felt I really got it.

I’m not special or unique. In fact, people who know me well know I can be a tough case – stubborn, willful, and resistant. In other words, human. If I can do this, you can do it. Put in the time, make your inner world and authenticity a priority, invest in yourself, work with capable teachers, and practice, practice, practice and you will learn how to embody your optimal health, radiance, and prosperity.

If that’s true, then why do so many fail? Less than ½ of 1 percent of those who lose more than 100 pounds will keep it off for more than 5 years without surgery. And less than 5 percent of those who learn how to create wealth will become prosperous. If anyone can do it, why don’t we? Survey says…the number 1 answer is…FEAR! Fear comes in many clever disguises such as “I don’t have time”, “I’ll start next month”, “I don’t know how”, “I’m not ready”, “I need to learn more first”, “I have to do x, y, and z before I can do that”, “I don’t want to talk about it”, “I can’t”, and “Huh?” AKA “I forgot”. But basically they all are layers over the very normal, simple human experience called fear.

In the moment we choose to do something new, we step out of our comfort zone and put ourselves face to face with some very uncomfortable feelings. Feelings human beings will go to great lengths to avoid.

When we voluntarily step across the threshold of what we know, we want and can imagine success, but we can also imagine the worst possible outcomes. We might feel rejected, anxious, humiliated, stupid, ashamed, hurt, embarrassed, foolish, like a failure, vulnerable, insecure, and more. These are the kind of feelings we prefer to avoid so we’d rather stay with the activities we know, the ones that make us feel good in the moment or at least not worse.

The problem with feeling good in the comfort zone is that, if you really check it, it actually doesn’t feel that good. It feels like being asleep, or numb, or like you’re running away from something. In other words, it feels like there’s something to fear.

Inside our comfort zone looking out toward a new expression of ourselves in the world, we are at the edge of a great opportunity, but our anxiety seems to say, ‘This is the wrong way to go. If it were right I wouldn’t feel so anxious.’

Fear tells our minds that others who succeed had it easier or were special in some way. Or if we don’t get something perfect the first time or feel nervous or scared to do it we think that maybe its not for us. But the passion that moved you to learn about losing weight, becoming prosperous, or personal development in the first place came from somewhere. It came from the part of you that wants you to live to your full potential.

Our quick fix culture does us all a huge disservice here, encouraging us as it does to lives of mediocrity. We’re so programmed to get rid of any kind of discomfort – QUICK – that we run away from normal, positive indicators of our growth and development.

Did you know there are two kinds of anxiety? There’s ordinary anxiety, like the everyday anxiety of sitting in traffic or having too much to do in too little time. But there’s also its lesser known counterpart, growthful anxiety. Growthful anxiety is a clear physical indicator that we have the opportunity to grow in a new and more expansive way, to be more whole, and to embody more of our potential.

Think about anytime you have started a new job, even though you might have been excited, weren’t you also nervous? Didn’t you experience a learning curve where, little by little, you began to master the aspects of your position that were once new to you? Didn’t it feel uncomfortable and awkward in the beginning? Didn’t you start to feel good about yourself as you worked through the uncomfortable phase and overcame the challenge of learning something new?

Of course you did. Because growing feels great. Much better than the comfort zone. That’s the way human growth and development works. It’s a simple, natural process of feeling inspired, challenged, courageous, and competent, at which point things become easy and we’re once again ready for something new and the cycle begins again. The reason we love hero movies is because we each face the hero/heroine’s journey of inspiration, challenge, courage, and success – we are each human development in action on our own unique path.

So I’m giving you some tips to break free from society’s gravitational pull toward mediocrity, to harness the power of growthful anxiety (fear), and to step boldly forward on your heroic journey to weight loss, health, and/or financial success.

Whether you’re sitting on the sofa watching TV or eating something you think is unhealthy, or if you’re studying new material or practicing a new form of exercise, what do you feel? Numb? Afraid? Engaged? When you’re practicing something new, can you feel all the stages of inspiration, challenge, courage, and competence?

2. Become aware of the messages in your environment. Are they positive and supportive of your growth? Or are they negative and discouraging? Positive messages tell you have what it takes, that success is hard and uncomfortable sometimes but totally worth the effort, and that you’ll feel most alive when you are challenging yourself to live to your fullest potential. Negative messages tell you that you don’t have what it takes to be successful, that success is supposed to be fast and feel good, or that it’s better just to take it easy and not stress yourself out. Make a list of the sources of positive messages in your life and list of the sources of negative messages in your life. Where do they come from? TV, radio, family, friends, work, mentors, books, role models, church, school, or other environments?

3. When we’re children, most of us (sadly not all) have a huge amount of love and support for our smallest achievements like taking our first step, learning our name, and adding 1+1. As we get older, we have to work extra hard to find capable support and encouragement for our growth and development. Many adults are jaded themselves, have given up on their own growth, and are threatened by those with passion and an unwillingness to settle for mediocrity, so people in that camp aren’t going to be able to provide support for our goals. This week eliminate or lessen your contact with the negative influences you found in question 2 above and increase and strengthen your contact with the positive influences in your life.

4. Give yourself a chance to benefit from growthful anxiety by practicing new weight loss, personal development, or prosperity skills that are uncomfortable for you. Even 10 minutes a day for whole week will build your confidence and ability to a whole new level.

The Internalized Strategic Planning Process Dilemma – Opportunity Lost

A well integrated Strategic Planning Process for ‘performance companies’ has always been the hallmark of strong Company earnings and positive market share growth among industry leaders. Conversely a Strategic Planning Process that has become too focused on the ‘now business’ and too process driven is a spawning ground for missed opportunity. Under this type of scenario, it is an all too common occurrence for a company President/CEO, at the launch of the annual Strategic Planning Process to secure a genuine ‘outside-the-box’ commitment from Senior Management when it is generally agreed that outside-the-box thinking by a well established Senior Management Team (SMT) is actually an oxymoron, particularly when dealing with non traditional market share growth.   

An internalized Strategic Plan is only capable of incremental market share growth and in fact planned growth in corporate revenue usually just keeps pace with the growth in market size at best. For any growth oriented organization, a traditional industry acquisition or far more probably a non-traditional acquisition, particularly in these market conditions, represents one of the key building blocks of tomorrow.  And lets agree, opportunities absolutely abound within the realities of a down market economic structure, better known as a recession.

As a case-in-point lets look at A T & T, the seven US Regional Bells, Bell Canada, Rogers among many others and opportunity lost. While these organizations were immersed in internalized, traditional strategic planning that was primarily focused on ‘baby steps’ market share growth through incremental technological innovative gains, along came Skype. So let’s talk about Skype, eBay and PayPal (part of eBay) and the fit with electronic voice communication market share.

 Skype is a software application that allows users to make telephone calls to other Skype users routed over the internet.  In some countries Skype users can also place calls to free-of-charge numbers while calls to landlines and cell phones can be made for a fee that equates to discount calling card rates.  Skype also has some expanded functionality that includes instant messaging, file transfer and video conferencing.

Skype was founded in 2002 and then acquired on September 12, 2005 by eBay for $2.6 billion to expand their eBay/PayPal e-commerce global footprint. In terms of growth, Skype is exploding – adding 150,000 users per day. Skype announced on October 3, 2008 they had over 338 million users worldwide.  In fiscal 2008 Skype had $500 million in annualized revenue with 14.8 billion free Skype-to-Skype minutes worldwide per quarter and 1.8 billion worldwide revenue generating minutes.  eBay saw the opportunity and it could be argued virtually snapped up Skype from under the noses of A T&T, the US Regional Bells, Rogers, Bell Canada among others. Skype is the internet voice communications world leader and in early 2010 plans are in place to separate Skype from eBay and PayPal.

When Skype initially exploded onto the market it was primarily used to place international calls for free to other Skype users or to landlines at reduced rates that were on a par with a calling card. If you had family and friend living abroad it was a no-brainer.  From there the applications as often as not were market driven. On the subject of market Driven, Skype usage is also rampant in Eastern European countries and many other countries around the world where internet connectivity is well ahead of telephone landline services.

Some examples of Skype innovative advantages; if you lived in a weak cellular signal area but an area that had a strong Wi-Fi, or as a user if you eat through your free-talk minutes a low rate VoIP service like Skype would be  much less per minute than the excess minutes charges on your standard cell or land line plan.

Also, don’t forget that Apple iPod Touch owners can use Skype and other VoIP applications (like Truphone and Fring) to make calls, even though iPod Touch has no telephone hardware – you just need earphones equipped with a drop down mic. The Skype Apple iPhone advantages are rather limited but when you Skype from an Apple iPod Touch, you basically use it as a free phone when calling other Skype users. You can also add free SMS (Short Message Service) to your iPod Touch so that it would do all of the same things as a phone but only cost a couple of dollars per month with the restriction for most people that it would only work in a wireless hotspot. It’s all about calls-on-the-cheap and pulling market share (otherwise known as revenue) away from AT & T, the Regional Bells, Bell Canada or Rogers.

As for Skype on your computer, direct computer-to-computer calls to other Skype members are free and you can call landlines and mobile phones throughout North America at very low rates. If your desktop or laptop computer comes with a Webcam then it really gets sexy; through Skype and the internet you can then talk and see one another or even do video conferencing with some limitations. Dropped calls are infrequent and are more attributable to increased network traffic than to Skype functionality. Call quality you ask?  International overseas computer-to-computer call quality is generally better than cell phone quality although bandwidth is important and they are only free on Wi-Fi not 3G networks.

Is it possible that A T & T, the Regional Bells, Rogers or Bell Canada felt that a Skype acquisition was either off strategy or might just cannibalize their traditional businesses? Probably, so it’s now a competitor rather than a Division or Subsidiary Company.

In conclusion the message is simple. A steady diet of non-traditional ‘outside-the-box’ thinking may not be a particularly good idea, particularly if the downside may represent a negative impact on the ‘now’ business(s). But as President/CEO or the individual responsible for driving the Strategic Planning Process you know when the time is right to breathe new life and new thinking into your organization or process. It is all but impossible to quantify the negative impact of opportunity lost; nobody is keeping score of those numbers. If the skill set doesn’t reside within your organization there is no need to buy it, just ‘rent it’. The downside is minimal, Skype is an upside example.
